Lighting Technicians for Generations Theater Company

(Volunteer Position)

Generations Theater Company seeks dedicated Lighting Technicians to join our production team for “Arsenic and Old Lace.” Our technicians will receive training to oversee the development, setup, operation, and management of stage lighting systems. This role is crucial in shaping the visual atmosphere of the production, ensuring that lighting enhances the storytelling and audience experience.

Responsibilities: This team will be overseen by Robert Bearden

  • Collaborate with the director and lighting designer to create and implement lighting plans that effectively convey the mood and era of the play.
  • Set up and program lighting equipment before rehearsals and performances.
  • Operate lighting consoles during rehearsals and live performances to ensure seamless execution of lighting cues.
  • Conduct regular checks and maintenance on lighting equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
  • Quickly troubleshoot and resolve any lighting issues that arise during rehearsals or performances.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in theater production and stage lighting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in creative environments.
  • Technical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability for evening and weekend rehearsals and performances.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals looking to get started and/or deepen their expertise in theatrical lighting and contribute to the success of a classic play in a dynamic community theater setting.

Time Requirements:

Your time is important and planning is critical. Here is our best guess at what the time requirements would be.

Rehearsals: Approx 2 hours commitment

Construction will be an all day event, but once the lighting job is completed there would be no requirement to say. (However, help is always appreciated.)

Tech Rehearsals: Approx 3 hour –  3.5 hours, but the goal would be to finish under 3 hours.

Timeframe: March 21st – April 14th

Training:  There will be 2 days of training, these dates are TBD and will be based on schedules of team members.

March 21th watch FULL SHOW while following along in the script and learning light cues.

March 28th watch FULL SHOW while following along in the script (possible running of show and programing)

March 29th and 30th (Light Setup) The set will be pre-constructed off site and will need to be moved to the stage this weekend. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The goal of this team will be to have set up, wired, and tested all light cues for the show.

March 31st, April 1st, April 2nd and April 3rd will be Tech Rehearsals, however the purpose of these rehearsals will not be setting light cues since they will  already be designed. These dates we will be running the show with full lighting and sound.
April 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th, 12th, and 13th. While both are welcome, only (1) Tech will need to be present to run the show, and so to lighten the load we can divide the days and make a schedule of who will be present for each night.

April 14th Congrats you made it to the end, now we just need to tear down the equipment and get it back to storage.

Let us know how you want to get involved.

A big thank you to our generous 2025 season sponsor for their unwavering support and commitment to the arts!
